When we first started advertising The Traveling Nour Islamic Book Fair, our goal was simple: to bring the joy of Islamic books, authors, and family experiences to as many communities as possible, minus the stress that usually comes with planning events.
In the beginning, we’d meet with masjids, schools, and community centers to explain how the fair works, what’s included, what we offer, and what we’d need from them. We’d walk in with our slideshow and smiles, fully expecting them to say, “Thanks! We’ll get back to you.”
But instead… every single one of them booked on the spot.
After it happened a few times in a row, my team and I started wondering if maybe we accidentally said something magical in our pitch. (Spoiler: we did.)
When we asked what made them decide so fast, they all said the same thing, it was when we said, “You bring the community — we take care of everything else.”
Apparently, that’s the line that does it every time.
And honestly, it makes total sense. If you’ve ever worked or volunteered for a nonprofit, especially a masjid or Islamic school, you know the struggle. Funding is tight, volunteers are limited, and “insha’Allah we’ll find time” is basically the unofficial slogan of every community board meeting.
So when they heard they could host a full-scale, beautifully organized event without having to plan, coordinate, or recruit volunteers? It was a no-brainer.
That’s when it hit me, at its core, The Nour Company has always been about community. But I never realized how much peace of mind this fair could bring to the organizers themselves.
One story I’ll never forget was at an Islamic center where we hosted a fair. The director came up to me with the sweetest smile and said,
“This is the first time in ten years that I actually got to enjoy an event at our masjid. Usually, I’m the one organizing, coordinating, and running around making sure everything’s perfect. But this time, I got to just be here, with my husband and kids, and actually enjoy it.”
And I almost cried (okay, maybe I did tear up a little). Because I felt that. As someone who’s usually running my own events for The Nour Company, I know that feeling of being in “event manager mode”, smiling on the outside, internally calculating whether you packed enough tape, pens, and extension cords.
So hearing that our team gave her a chance to breathe and enjoy her community, that meant everything.
When a masjid or school partners with us to host a Traveling Islamic Book Fair, they get:
- A full event setup —displays, cozy reading corners, and decor that says “Instagram-worthy, but still halal.
- A curated book selection — children’s books, adult titles, and stories written by Muslim authors from all over.
- Author meet & greets + book signings.
- Arts & crafts activities — for kids and honestly, adults who just want to glue something.
- Local coffee & snack vendors — because everything’s better with caffeine and pastries.
- Flyers and promo materials — designed, done, and ready to post.
- Full coordination — setup, logistics, communication, all handled by our team.
All your community needs to do is:
1. Provide the space, tables, and chairs.
2. Share the flyer.
3. Show up, open the door for our team at set up time, and enjoy the event.
That’s literally it. We take care of everything else.
Since launching, masjids and schools across California have reached out to bring the fair to their own communities, and every event has been such a blessing, watching families gather, kids light up at new books, and seeing organizers finally get to enjoy something they helped make possible.
If your community is ready to host The Traveling Nour Islamic Book Fair, we’d love to bring it to you next!
