What it means to me to have an islamic gift store

When I first dreamed of opening an Islamic gift store, I never imagined just how much this journey would teach me—or how many bookmarks I’d accidentally snap in half while trying to add the perfect design (may they rest in peace). Running a business is definitely not easy work, but every late night, every spreadsheet-induced headache, and every pop-up booth has been worth it.

I started my store because I wanted to create a place where our faith could be celebrated in beautiful, creative ways. From calligraphy prints to faith-inspired glass cup designs, I wanted every item to be a reminder of our connection to Allah—and a little spark of joy in someone’s day. I love the creative side of this work; it’s where I thrive. Designing, curating, and brainstorming new ideas make me feel alive (and yes, sometimes a little sleep-deprived, too!).

But as any business owner will tell you, it’s not all pretty packaging and fun photo shoots. I’ve learned so much about the not-so-glamorous side of things: managing a budget, coordinating store pop-ups, building an online store, keeping up with an e-commerce platform, and navigating all the surprises that come with a brick-and-mortar location (like discovering you will run out of shopping bags on the busiest days).

Through it all, what keeps me going is the community. Meeting customers who share their stories with me, seeing the excitement when they find a piece that speaks to their heart, and knowing I can offer something meaningful fills me with gratitude. I feel blessed to serve as a small part of someone’s Ramadan, Eid, or even just a moment when they want to give a thoughtful gift “just because.”

I take pride in my work and aim to make every item a creative expression of faith—something that brings a smile and reminds us of our purpose. Alhamdulillah, I’m grateful for every lesson this path has taught me, every connection I’ve made, and every opportunity to bring a little more beauty into the world, one Islamic gift at a time.

May Allah accept this effort as a small act of service to our community and keep it sincere for His sake. And may He forgive me for the times I thought I could DIY everything in one night (spoiler: I could not).

Thank you to everyone who’s supported me, shopped with me, or even just sent a kind message. You make all the challenges worthwhile—and you remind me that while I may be the one behind the counter, this store belongs to all of us.

With love, du’as, and a sprinkle of glitter,
Valeria
